How to Lay Kit Kat Tiles?

Here is a detailed step-by-step guide for laying Kit Kat finger tiles:

    Materials Needed:

    • Tile adhesive (thin set mortar)
    • Notched trowel
    • Tile spacers
    • Mosaic tiles
    • Grout float and grout
    • Sponges
    • Bucket of water

    Preparation:

    1. Make sure the surface you’ll be tiling is clean, dry and free of any debris or loose material.

    2. Cover any areas you don’t want tiled with masking tape or a drop cloth.

    3. Plan out your design and layout the mosaic tiles on the surface to visualize the pattern before you begin.

    Laying the Tiles:

    1. Using the notched trowel, spread the thinset mortar onto a small section of the surface in a thin, even layer.

    2. Immediately begin pressing the tiles into the thinset one by one using your fingers to create the mosaic pattern. Apply firm pressure.

    3. Use tile spacers between tiles to maintain consistent grout lines if desired.

    4. Work in small sections at a time before the thinset starts to form a skin over it.

    5. Go back and readjust any tiles that are uneven or out of alignment before the thinset fully dries.

    6. Allow the thinset to fully cure for 24-48 hours before grouting.

    Grouting:

    1. Mix up a batch of grout according to package instructions.

    2. Use the grout float at a 45-degree angle to spread the grout across the tile surface.

    3. Force the grout down into the spaces between the tiles.

    4. Allow the grout to set up for 15-30 minutes until it starts to turn a hazy colour.

    5. Use a damp sponge to wipe away the excess grout from the tile surface in a circular motion.

    6. Rinse the sponge frequently and change the bucket water as it gets dirty.

    7. Allow the grout to fully cure for 72 hours before sealing.

    Sealing (Optional):

    1. Apply a grout sealer or tile sealer with a brush or applicator following the manufacturer’s instructions.

    2. Allow the sealer to cure fully before using the tiled surface.

The most important tips are to work in small sections, apply firm pressure when setting the tiles, and allow proper curing times for both the thinset and grout. Take your time for an even, professional looking mosaic tile installation.
